I met a man today in Maidan Nez. He identified himself immediately as a Crimean Tatar. There was a festive atmosphere on Khrystakyt as it was the weekend, a Sunday, and the road was closed to traffic. This man was holding a very tall flag post, waiving the flag of Crimea juxtaposed on the Ukrainian flag. ‘Ukraine is Crimea, Crimea is Ukraine’ he said. He explained, his 5 yr old daughter was murdered. His family of 6, now dead or scattered, destroyed. He has lived in Kyiv for 3 years now, and will not stop waving this flag for as long as Crimea is occupied territory.
Today was also the date of an ECtHR ruling on property lost and damaged in Luhansk occupied territory: Ukraine was not held accountable for injuries caused while territory in the Eastern provinces is not under national (Ukraine’s) control.
