alert along the border with Ukraine. Putin says in a news conference that
Russia will not recognise the outcome of upcoming presidential elections in
Ukraine if the current "terror" continues. He denies that new Russian
troops were sent to Crimea. He also says that Yanukovich’s political career has
ended, but stands by Russian ‘humanitarian intervention’ in Crimea. Meanwhile,
Ukrainian warships in Sevastopol have draped the railings of the ships with
mattresses, to slow down any Russian troops attempting to board. A standoff
between soldiers in a Ukrainian airfield in Sevastopol; arguments ensue between
generals, but injuries are avoided.
A group calling themselves (in Russian),
Crimean Women for Peace, set up on a road in Simferopol in support of Ukraine,
