Thinking of a new generation, a new Ukraine is being built - or at least represented - from the fashion, design and creativity of young people active in Ukraine. From Kyiv to Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk to Chernivtsi, Kherson to Uzhorod, artists together with business-savvy partners, are investing their energy into their country. And before you can write these off as global-economy (capitalist) charged activities, walk the streets of Kolomiya and Kharkiv where young buskers perform jazz renditions of Ukrainian folk songs, or read the newsletters about local community initiatives such as in Podilsk (https://uain.press/regions/najmolodshyj-golova-sela-ya-zavzhdy-hotiv-zdijsnyuvaty-mriyi-inshyh-lyudej/) where the 24-year old community chairman has restored the village community centre, or the town of Boguslav, where locals are rejuvenating green spaces, child-friendly outdoor spaces and eco-tourism. Ukraine is energetic, and somehow this energy exists alongside the very real analyses/critiques of corruption and the ongoing frailties of the war in the East.
In Kyiv, the energy of the emerging designers, artists, family events, music and culture; In Kharkiv, buskers on the streets playing traditional Ukrainian music on violins, accordions, bases and rock cords; In Lviv, the culture of coffee, food, music and design; In Kolomiya, the young children dancing in the streets to live music; and Chernivtsi, the art gallery hosting young artists from Ukraine that spilt their time with residencies in Bulgaria, Romania, Germany and Italy...
