More than 2,000 people have died in Ukraine in recent months. Poroshenko, ahead of a military parade to mark Independence Day (independence from the Soviet Union), said that almost $3bn (£1.8bn) will be spent on re-equipping the army after an "exhausting" campaign against pro-Russian rebels. Sunday marked the 23rd anniversary of independence of Ukraine. There was a military parade through Kyiv. Despite Sunday's celebrations, the conflict continued in eastern Ukraine where artillery bombs hit one of Donetsk's biggest hospitals early on Sunday, damaging a morgue and two other buildings. No casualties were reported.

*The United States, EU and Russia are interdependent and interlinked in the space industry, and appear unlikely to end their cooperation till 2020. According to Anton Mikhenko, a defense expert at the Kyiv-based Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Studies, Ukrainian defense plants engage in almost a billion dollars of business a year with Russia.  Ukraine is the world’s eighth-largest defense exporter according to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. About 70 percent of Ukraine’s defense exports flow to Russia.

The majority of the current Parliament members approved the dictatorial laws, resulting in the lost lives of the Heaven’s Hundred. They must answer for this. The President has called for democratic political powers to run together as a single pro-Ukrainian, pro-European team. The new elections will take place on October 26, 2014.
